Costco Teamsters rally in Norfolk, Virginia
May 3, 2024 | (Click image to enlarge.) Rank-and-file Costco Teamsters from Maryland and across the nation joined General President Sean M. O’Brien at a rally Sunday in Norfolk, Va. The rally was to support of the union-wide initiative to organize and mobilize workers at the wholesale retailer ahead of national contract negotiations this year. “Working families in Norfolk have energized national organizing efforts at Costco. Now, Teamsters across the country are standing together to make Costco the ‘good employer’ it claims to be,” O’Brien said. Since the landmark victory in Norfolk, the Teamsters have set up massive organizing efforts for Costco workers across the country. Why this matters: More than 900 Costco workers in Maryland are members of Teamsters Local 570 (Baltimore).

DHL sorters at CVG push back against intense company anti-union campaign
May 28, 2024| Publicly, DHL claims to be an “employer of choice” that respects freedom of association and collective bargaining rights. However, the company’s actions towards sort workers at its global hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) tell a different story. Workers at CVG are organizing to become Teamsters, but instead of respecting its workers, DHL has launched an intense anti-union campaign that violates its own corporate policies and the neutrality agreement it established with the Teamsters. In the past few weeks, the Teamsters have filed over a dozen unfair labor practice charges against the company for violating workers' rights and federal labor law. But instead of addressing the company's disgusting anti-union behavior, DHL’s top executives in Germany… Watch the video, learn more, here.

Ascend cannabis workers join Teamsters Local 570
May 29, 2024| Budtenders and shift leads at Ascend Cannabis in Aberdeen, Maryland, have voted overwhelmingly to join Teamsters Local 570. The workers are the first in the state to join the Teamsters Union. Ascend customers were supportive of the workers during the organizing drive, with many of them wearing “vote yes” buttons inside the dispensary during the lead up to the vote. “We come from an area that's very blue-collar, very working class, so the customers want us to win a union just as bad as we do,” said Ryan Bennett, an Ascend worker on the organizing committee. Full press release at Teamsters.
